Photographic Evidence

I think our state of "expectancy" is public knowledge for all our regular blog readers, so I figured it was time for some proof. Hard to believe that 25 weeks of this process are over and we've only another 15-ish to go before our house is a little fuller...and my midsection a little emptier! Considering the "tickling" of my ribs that's happening at the moment, I think that's a good trade-off.
WEEK 25!

Poor, Sad, Ol' Blog

This space is so neglected! But tonight I have a free night all to myself before my regular weekly routine returns now that the holidays have wound down.

Options:
* go to a movie
* take a bath
* paint my fingernails
* knit
* organize the office (new bookcase ordered from Staples today - on sale w/ free shipping wahoo!)
* do laundry
* put away Christmas decorations/linens
* strip guest bed
* write unfinished holiday cards
* watch movie at home
* scan photos
* work on overdue project/gift

Now, to choose something! That always seems to be the hardest part.

Not a lot of original content here these days...

...but here's an amazing video to watch:

OFFF Cincinnati 2011 - Let's Feed The Future from OFFF, let's feed the future on Vimeo.

Enjoy, friends!

Perhaps there will be more written here next week, in the midst of Thanksgiving day preparations. Adam and I are endeavoring to make a most delicious apple pie.

My parents don't want you to know this, but they're in Italy.*

Which means we have their dog. Living with us. With us, in our house, with our two cats. Excuse me while I go take a nap.

TK (abbreviated to protect his anonymity*) arrived Wednesday evening. It is now Saturday afternoon and while all the living creatures who currently reside here are still alive, we're exhausted. We're exhausted by 7:30 am when TK comes bounding out of his crate with all the restraint of a rodeo bull and sends the cats scurrying as fast as they can without actually running because they (mistakenly) think he's after them. (He's only after their food. And love, lots and lots of love.)

Thursday morning, I took TK for a long walk, even though it was raining harder by the minute, in the hope of wearing him out and creating some peace for the rest of the day. When we returned, sopping wet, I walked upstairs to take a shower and found cat poop on our bathmat. In case we were wondering how the cats were really feeling about this house "guest" (intruder?).

Fortunately, things appear to be settling down. We occasionally find all three animals lying agreeably in the same room. And today, Jack and TK touched noses, voluntarily. Of course that made TK so excited that he jumped up and made Jack hiss, but still, progress is progress. Let's hope there's much more progress, and much less misplaced cat poop, in our future.

* My parents don't want you to know they're in Italy because they think that by stating as much, on the internet, their house will be robbed. Possible, but unlikely, and I just couldn't wait for them to get back before sharing the Tales from the Menagerie. I suppose this will make me responsible for their break in. Or an accomplice, at the very least. Good thing I got all my stuff out of their attic.

Robert Reich on Cynicism, and Other Things

I just shared this, Robert Reich's speech at the Summit for a Fair Economy, on Facebook, but wanted to include it here, too, along with this link to a separate article that also addresses one issue touched on by Reich: the intentional cynicism the GOP is working to create to fulfill its prophecy that government is wasteful, inefficient, and ineffective.

Some will dismiss Reich as a progressive/democrat/liberal/whatever-label-you-want-to-use-to-dismiss-him. But the fact that Mike Lofgren (the author of the article linked-to above who "served 16 years as a professional staff member on the Republican side of both the House and Senate Budget Committees") identifies the same problem, highlights the reality-and the frightening nature-of this issue.
